my goodness but things got exciting after my last post...
On June 19th my niece was born! For blogs sake, i'm calling her Chubsey. She got her safe and sound and all are doing well...i've emailed all of you about her, so i wont go on and on here. i try to see her about once a week, which isnt nearly enough but i still have bills to pay so i have to keep working and not spend all my time at her house. sigh. she's very sweet and i think she likes her auntie. we have little talks. i finished the blankie i've been knitting for her. its just a basic garter stitch blankie...based on a pattern that, when knitted on a smaller scale, is actually a dishcloth (which i find very funny). its made of a random Red Heart TLC baby yarn called Frolic. A multicolored yarn, its pink, yellow, green, blue...you get the drift. if i had half a clue of how to post a picture i'd post one of the blankie and miss marley.
below an email i got from a friend...for the life of me, with everything going on in the world right now, why the *hell* are all these people worked up about adding an amendment to the consitiution making marriage only between a woman and man? The best article i've read so far re all the hubub was by andrew sullivan who's a conservative...who happens to be gay. (in his words hes a "a small government, balanced-budget, libertarian homo") heh! He wrote an article which appeared in the Advocate, and his basic point was this: If marriage between a man and a woman is so very sacred and must be protected (honestly) from gay folks, then why wasnt it a bigger deal when, for example, britney spears married whatshisname as a lark? where was the public outcry from the conservative right? she sure didnt treat marriage as very sacred...isnt now, either, since she's engaged to new whatshisname. i thought sullivan made a very good point...we roll our eyes or smirk over j-lo getting married to every guy she's ever shared a milkshake with, but committed gay folks who want the right to share their lives (and take advantage of tax breaks and insurance and all that legal stuff) are a menace to society as we know it? hell, society aint that grand right now...it could use an overhaul...anyway, here's the email and link to the poll if you're in the mood to weigh in:
***This is an important poll to answer. Fitzgerald is the author of the Illinois anti-gay marriage act. He needs to know that there are Illinoisians who do not agree with him.
Senator Peter Fitzgerald has an online poll on the Federal Marriage Amendment.
Please go to it and vote!
The senate has begun to debate the FMA and a vote is expected next week.***
I get very pissy when pious, judgemental people mess with the consitution. why any of the nitwits in office right now think they need to mess with it is beyond my comprehension. its held up this long...leave it alone...
in other surly news, i LOVE (note the sarcasm) how some righties are latching onto Edwards finances, and saying things like "oh, he's privilaged...how hypocritical that he's trying to act like he's one of the 'common folk'"...or however the hell they say it. hmm...lets think. john edwards was raised not-wealthy in North Carolina and *earned* his money...so thats a bad thing? thats a black mark on his character? i find it hilarious (sarcasm again) that righties only like it when *they* have the money...anyone who didnt inherit it from his daddy is a 'hypocrite' for remembering where they came from and identifying with folks who work for a living.
I dont even care if people like kerry or not. he's not my first choice for pres, but right now i'd vote for just about anyone to get dubya out of office. i just cannot understand why anyone likes dubya and thinks he's done a good job so far. i guess my reactions to public officials are pretty basic and unscientific...i go with whether i feel like they'd really give a damn about little ol me and my little ol problems, and smirkey, privilaged dubya has never seemed like anything but a prick to me. i hope he's a one-termer like his daddy...lets help him find a new job...
from her post under the bed, Fuzzybutt is sneezing. i dont know why i find that so funny, but it makes me laugh every time she does it.
Going to New Orleans this week for a conference. i'm excited, and it should be fun, but i just know its gonna be **hot** and i just dont hold up well in the heat. i'm fragile...lol!
more later...hopefully in less than a month. i'm sure something will piss me off between then and now.
