Last night I went to see David Sedaris at the Amercian Theatre in St. Louis. This is the second time i've seen him read his work, the first about a year ago, in a former chapel on the campus of wash u with my Cousin. He was charming, funny, and endearingly gracious. Cousin could not go this time, and neither could my friend Hairbear, who is also a huge fan, so I talked my Brother into going. We both really enjoyed what Sedaris had to say about living in France at this time, and about living abroad. He said that the French are very aware that the American President and the American people are two different things. If you get the chance, go to NPR online and listen to his essay "American in Paris".

Sedaris read Ship Shape, an essay thats going to appear in the New Yorker this fall, three "chapters" from a series he's been writing thats generally about politics, and another essay which has been published, I think again in the New Yorker. I really should write this stuff down during the reading, because between the mass doses of television and maybe standing too close to the microwave, I can't seem to remember shit anymore.

He also recommended a book called "An Obedient Father". Of course i scurried home and ordered it from the library.

He signed autographs in the lobby afterward, but since we had a rather long trip home I didn't even ask Brother if we could stick around. If you ever get the chance to hear him read his work, go. His writing is funny on paper, and even funnier when he reads it.

I've been sick again. I'm so damn tired of cold season. I've been doing little shooters of Tussin (the walmart version of robitussin, for those of you who can afford the real thing) all week. I'm not ruling out that its SARS.
