why do people keep giving ann coulter a job? she's the least credible pundit on the planet. her books are mean spirited and chock full of errors and lies. now she's all full of righteous indignation about USA Today dropping her story from the Dem convention because they, according to her, didnt like the "tone, humor, [and] sarcasm" of her story. since the tone was hateful, the humor was non-existant, and sarcasm isnt really a good journalistic trait, i can see why USA today didnt run it. Hell, i'm really not sure why they asked her to write for them. Actually, i think they should have run the story. The best argument against ann is her own words. let her hang herself with her own rope.
i dont even want to post the article or a link. if you want to read it, google for ann coulter. she's got it on her website.
I've been watching the Dem convention which i told myself i wouldnt do. i got sucked in. i watched most of it on cspan because the networks and the big news channels only show bits, then talk thru the rest. My routine has been to watch cspan, then flip to fox, cnn, and sometimes msnbc to see what the talking heads are saying. i honestly dont understand how anyone can tolerate any of them. i really dont need a talking head to think for me. show the pols speaking, and leave opinions out of it.
i would have a little respect for Fox if they'd come right out and say 'we're the voice of the right'. cos they are. but they insisit upon hiding behind the erroneous 'fair and balanced' tag line. i was less offended by most of their chatter than i thought i'd be. i loved watching and listening to their 'reporters' add in their own little opinions, like when one of them said that kerry's dig about appointing a sec of state that follows the constitution was in reference to 'gay marriage'. I didnt think about gay marriage when i heard that line. I thought about how Ashcroft and Co have decided to nose into our library records.
i did agree with them (for the most part) about Terezzzza Heinz (ketchup) Kerry. i dont think she's pure evil, but she really didnt have any place giving a big speech, and one that wasnt very good. she talked about herself a lot. i think she should have just talked about John, then made reference to how she would support him. hey, im not voting on a spouse (dubya loves to tell everyone how great laura is, too, cos she seems like a decent human being and he thinks she'll make his sorry self look better). anyway, i did think it was funny that the Fox folks talked for a full 15 solid minutes about how 'unimportant' her speech was. erm, if it was so unimportant, why ya still yappin about it?
actually, i'm stunned that Fox and the Right dont like THK. shes one of their own. I think she's really still a Republican. Nobody turns on a dime like that.
however, i think her telling the reporter to 'shove it' was a bunch of hot air about a nothing event. who cares.
and cnn is so not liberal. anyone who would employ that pinhead Tucker Carlson isnt liberal. i saw him get his ass handed to him last night by Gideon Yago from MTV (who i used to think was a faker, but he was very well informed and intelligent) They were all chattering about how the Dems were trying to take back the whole 'patriotic' vibe and Tuck basically said he 'never' saw any instance where anyone who opposed the war was called unpatriotic. tha hell? Gideon called him out...pointed out that Max Cleland was under fire his whole last campaign (which he lost) because he had questioned the war, and his patriotism was called into question time and time again by his opponantbecause of his stance . Tucker just kind of sputtered and repeated what he'd said before about not ever hearing anyone be called unpatriotic. I love that the Dems are finally standing up to the whole unpatriotic thing. i love this country. i think its unpatriotic NOT to question the actions of our leaders. they work for US.
btw, if you or anyone you know is unregistered to vote, get off your dead ass and vote. voting is my new soapbox topic. honestly, people have fought and died to give us the freedom to speak our minds and the right to have a say in who leads us. i dont even care if you dont like anyone running. read up on everyone. pick someone. and if you still dont like them, write yourself in. or me. :) or willie nelson (who sang one of my favorite songs at the convention yesterday: Promised Land.)
Barack Obama gave an excellent, stirring speech. made me all kinds of proud to be an Illinois Democrat again (Dick Durbin intro-ed Obama, and he rocks too). Im all excited cos Obama is going to be here next Tuesday, so of course im gathering up all my Dem peeps (all 5 of us!) to go.
Joe Biden gave a great speech yesterday. like Obama's though, it wasnt carried on the big 4 or Fox or CNN, so only the cspan junkies got to see it. one line in ref to dubya was 'its not leading if no one is following you' or something like that. he was funny as hell on the daily show (tds) the night before too. he acted like a real human, and not a typical pol.
i guess TDS ripped the media about its coverage of sharptons speech. of course i watched it, and even thought al gets a little crazy sometimes the speech was actually quite effective and he made some good points. and the delivery was excellent, pure entertaining al. of course the media ripped on it and said no one liked it, when in fact the crowd was going nuts. everyone was energized. TDS basically called the media out over it and got as close to calling them a bunch of idiots as its ever gotten. TDS is by far the best news show on nowadays, fake or not.
enough convention stuff.
Chubsey is doing well. am going to see her tonight for a bit, and she's coming to visit Sunday! i'm happy she's making her first trip to the farm :) i'll re-figure out Hello and post more pics of her bad self.
New Orleans was awesome. I wish i'd been down there longer, cos there was so much good food left to eat. i had shrimp every day, and a lot of really good wine. ahhh
