Am I the only one who thinks that chickensh*t a$$holes who blow up innocent folks on their way to work need to be, well, quickly and quietly hunted down and blown to friggin kingdom come? (every now and then i channel my inner NRA member and it feels so good it scares me a little)
So i'm knitting happily on my booga bag and I get toward the end and all the sudden I think "hmm...seems like i'm not going to have enough yarn for the handles." I knit away, deluding myself that by some knitting magic unknown to me I'd have enough...surely it was enough. It was so close to done! When the bag part was finished, I started on the I-cord for the handle and ran out of yarn. I need about 5-6 ft of I-cord and I had barely 2 feet. There was much cursing and swearing, and an emergency email to my knitting guru, Needlefingers. I was afraid I'd have to frog it (rip it up) and start over, or have a lovely bag with a little tiny deformed handle, but Kristi assured that an easy fix was to just call the yarn shop we'd bought the yarn at and order another skein. hooray! The moral of this story? Always, always, check your gauge.
Curly Sue's first birthday was the 19th, and her party on the 18th was a huge success. She looked adorable and ornery with her crazy curly hair with a pink bow in it, and her sweet little white eyelet sundress. If i could re-figure out how to post pictures, I'd put up one of her and I in the inflatable castle jumper that Jodi rented for the day*. We had the best time. (*i'm awesome and figured it out as you can tell from the pic at the top. blogger made it easier now to post pictures without using Hello. Thanks blogger!)
Went this past weekend to see Tom Petty and the Black Crows at Summerfest in Milwaukee With Neener, her husband Claude, her neice and neice's b-friend. The concert itself was great, but between sets Neener and I looked at each other and I said "If it was just you and me, we'd be out of here by now" which cracked Neen up because she'd been thinking the same thing. When we'd first got there the Crows were on and Chris Robinson is v. loud. We decided we were officially old because we wanted him to crank it down a notch.
The venue at S-fest is a huge CF...seems like everyone is trying to get into the place at the same spot. Also factor in a huge amt of drunken Wisco's and you've got yourself one annoying crowd. A woman (known from here on out as Token Old Whore or TOW for short) in front of us was hammered, gnawing on the ear of the guy next to her, then they'd french for awhile . Nasty. Then TOW started drunk-groping anyone around her and making an ass of herself in general. Neen and I took a vote and decided she looked old enough to know better.
We also found out the woman standing next to me is an even bigger fan of Petty's "American Girl" than Neen. When he played it during his encore, she freaked out. She jumped straight up and down in the air and screamed like they'd just run out of Miller Lite. She had this crazy dance stance...stiff legged, but swaying wildly side to side, her crispy, securely-rooted-in-the-80's hair flying dangerously toward my beer.
The nice thing about fairs and fests is that its so easy to feel good about yourself there. I don't know when it became OK for fatties like myself to stroll the earth in fat squishing low riders, with gut hanging out. Actually, I'm kind of sick of seeing everyones midsection. About 90% of the population isnt really fit enough to pull it off successfully so...stop. Please. I'm begging you, chunky sisters, to cover up. I know its hard to find a shirt that fits (see: Jen's futile search for a semi-fitted shirt with an actual short sleeve, not a stupid f---ing cap sleeve) but thats what Lane Bryant is for!
M & T's baby is due next month, and her blankie is so not finished. I'll update as it unfolds. I'm trying a new pattern, and its got yarn overs and purling and all kinds of excitement. It should turn out cute though.
Speaking of babies, Buddy and Bumblebee had baby Bumblebuddy on June 7th (another little Gemini!) and she's precious. I've seen her twice and we just sit and she snoozes and I chat with her and we have the best time. She got a fuzzy crazy pink boucle blankie from me. It bothered me that the blankie was not square but Needlefingers assures me that boucle "knits up that way". awesome.
Needlefingers has been coming over on Wednesday's and we've been going to yoga, which is a blast. Barb the yoga instructor is very cool, but she's not a yoga sissy. She keeps things hopping. I like it. We went early yesterday for the Fitball class and I dug it too. Neither of my great fears (falling off the ball or having it explode under my massive frame) came to fruition, so I had that going for me.
I'm still splitting time between wherever I land and my parents house, which is still going well. I'm such a big baby, but I do love when my Mommy makes me scrambled eggs, and when I show up for dinner there's something ready that I didnt have to cook! awesome.
Going to Chicago with the Girls (Jen, Em, Kat, and Mel) in two weeks, and I'm looking forward to it. We're going to Second City, and I can hardly wait.
I think thats enough til November. ;)
