see, last year on my birthday i was at my parents house, heading to the body shop to get my recently sideswiped car fixed. since i was turning 29, i was feeling kind of whiney, that "oh boo hoo, i'm not going to be a 20 something anymore" crap. then i came to an intersection. just a plain old 4 way intersection...nothing special to anyone else who drove by. its special to me though, but not in a happy way. when i was 15 a friend of mine got killed there. i think about him every time i drive by that spot, and it was no different last year. however, the thought suddenly struck me that if there was any way to ask him, i'll bet he would have loved to turn 29, 30, whatever. he never even got a chance to even get his drivers license. I know his family would do anything to have him back.
I've been mellow about birthdays ever since. To get worked up about getting older is kind of a form of suicide to me. hating being given the time you've got here is so petty and disrespectful.
of course, when my crows feet and the little lines running from my nose to the corners of my mouth start to look like little canyons, i may just change my tune... :)
