What the...

Seriously, how the hell has it been since April 20th that I've posted? You would think I'd have more to report than I do, but here goes:

The HBCU Tour: It was well worth it. Very interesting to go along to other schools and talk to other professionals. Parts of the tour were annoying, of course. We were 4 in a room by default, but since I have a job and a credit card the first night I got my own room (which I totally shared with my friend who went who is also grown up. How nice am I?). We had driven all night, toured all day, and I damn well wanted a hot shower, my toothbrush, and as little company as possible. Peoples, I just do not like to live like a 22 year old anymore...the idea of crashing in a room piled high with people does not make me happy. But I sucked it up and acted like a big girl and everything turned out fine. I did earn the nickname Princess during the trip, which I generally replied to with a ladylike "You're G*dd*mn right I'm a Princess." This amused the children to no end. They want to be me when they grow up. I just know they do.

Traveling with the children had its merits. It was a good group, and we all got along pretty well. I met a couple of the people I'll have class with in the fall. Talk about getting to know someone. "Hi! Nice to meet you! Lets spend 10 days in a van together!" Every time I hear the songs Hips Don't Lie and Ms. New Booty I think about the trip, since everyone got all happy when either song came on. Good times...

My Birthday: My birthday was last Monday. I had a party for myself on Sunday just so I could see Curly Sue, who showed up all perfect and wonderful. Her birthday is soon, so her party is this Saturday. I got all manner of veddy cool bday gifts: Money from my lovely parents, a Starbucks gift card from Ragged, books and a CD from E., a cool history book from J., Amazon gift certies from work folk and Brother, SIL and Curly Sue, a little decorative box from Aunt R, and $5 from my friend Miss Iva, who is in her 90's and has sent me and Brother 5 bucks on so many birthdays. That $5 is more precious to me than anyone will ever understand.

I spent my actual birthday with my friends Needlefingers and Ramblin, who not only cooked up burgers and fried stuff but also surprised me with a gift of gorgeous pink (squeal!) sock yarn and a little card to inventory my needles on. We chowed on ice cream pie Needles picked up at their local ice cream shop (which is the best little ice cream shop ever.) We chattered over old yearbooks (apparently I was a snotty little bitch in H.S. from my own words printed in the Senior yearbook.) and visited and laughed at the cats all while knitting. I actually got a few more rows of the sock done! However, I'm still not at the heel. I am the Slowest. Knitter. Ever. And I have not one excuse for not posting a photo of Sock (besides sheer laziness) because I bought a...

New Camera: One day at work I said to myself "Self, I am sick and damned tired of listening to you piss and moan about not owning a digital camera. Go buy one over lunch and shut up about it." (If my inner drill sargent was half as mean as this when getting me motivated to do homework or apply myself at work, I would have a Ph.D. right now and be President of a college. However, my inner drill sargent really only forces me to buy things. I wouldn't have her any other way.) So I wandered to the Wally and got a Canon Powershot SD450. My exchange with Sara, the genuinely helpful Wally employee, and my bad self went something like this:

Sara: Can I help you?
Me: I want a camera. A tiny one that takes ok pictures. But it has to be tiny.
Sara: Well, I'd go with this one or this one (pointing to the Powershot SD400 and the SD450)
Me: I've been looking at that one. (pointing to the 450). I've read about it and it gets pretty good reviews. I'll take it.
Sara: Ok!
Me: If I hate it can I bring it back?
Sara: Yes, you have 30 days. Come back in if you need any help with it though!

Isn't Sara lovely!? She was just precious. The consumer arena needs more Saras.

So I will hopefully be posting more pictures in the near future.

My new favorite show: Footballers Wives. Its a totally trashy British soap opera about vapid, spoiled footballers and their vapid, spoiled wives. I love it. Sadly, Only the first two seasons are out on DVD in the US. I love it so much I'd watch the freakin' World Cup just because... if only it was on the networks. (I don't have cable)

What else? No summer classes (yay!) but I am starting my internship this summer. I'm working for our college district in an area different from where I work, but still under the same umbrella. Looks like I'll get to go to some different meetings and do some fun new stuff. Well, fun in a nerdy way.

I just emailed Needles in a panic because all our laughter about high school and our general "oh thank God we haven't had a class reunion" attitude of last week has Karmically caught up with us. A former classmate (who I like and because of this will actually call back. Eventually.), just called and wanted to talk to me regarding a class reunion. Since the caller ID said private I didnt pick up, but listened to the message with a look of utter horror on my face. Totally slackjawed with mortification. A class reunion? It's my own little nightmare come to life.

Ugh, class reunions. . . remind me to tell you about mine sometime. Weeks of therapy and heavy drinking has helped me forget.

Welcome back!
