happy Primary day! i get so dork-ily exicted about any voting day. Yay democracy!
however, i was appalled to find that some folks dont vote just cos they dont want to say what 'side' they're on. first of all, i voted in cisne. everyone knows everyones business in cisne. in fact, when someone asked me which ballot i wanted i was busy yapping and so one of the election officials, my former high school english teacher, answered for me "she wants a democrat ballot" and it made me laugh. then i voted and chit-chatted for awhile, and when i told them i was kinna surprised it wasnt busier, they said that some folks dont want to say if they're dem or rep. silly! i'm half of the mind that we should do away with the different sides though...who but the most rigid of folks agrees with *everything* their party says? I dont agree with the dems all the time and just cos i think dubya is a addlebrained theiving liar doesnt mean I think all republicans are. shades of gray, people! nothing is black and white anymore....just neutral shades of gray....
wait, i promised not to rant, didnt i? sorry, got caught up in the fervor of democracy in action again...
my favorite part of voting back home was the visiting. i woke up early to run and vote, then come to work. however, i forgot that voting in my former town is not the same for me as voting at home . in my former town i was in and out, i grabbed my ballot, punched holes in it, and got the hell out of there. at home i hadnt factored in that i would see people i know and who like to talk as much as i do. so before, during, and after i voted i talked, and wound up leaving about 40 minutes after i'd originally planned to. oops!
btw, st louis was entertaining and educational. the lady i had to go with didnt turn out nearly as bad as i thought she'd be so that was a plus. the funnest part of the conference was when i conned my cousin (hereafter known as Cousin) into going on a pub crawl thru soulard. so i bought us tickets and damned if we didnt miss the bus. we'd stopped to eat, and instead of going someplace sensible like hardees, we had to try this little pan asian place in the central west end called cafe zoe. it was yummy, but the low talking, slow waitress made us late. however, we forgot to tip her, so it all evened out in the end! we figured that as slow as she was, she'd not realize we hadnt tipped her til sometime a day or two later. this is the super abbreiviated version, btw...anyway, we ended up jumping in the suburban and basically following the bus around soulard. i'm quite sure the bus driver, who we kept stalking and asking where he'd let the other educators off at, thought we were already drunk or stoned or something. it was mighty big fun, and when i get time later i'll add more details. so if anyone else is interesting in going on a pub crawl thru soulard the next time yall are in the st louis area, Cousin's charging 25 bucks a head. hey, its a deal!
